1. Brief

First of all, through the brief, I realized that this project required me to select one of the three topics to do some research and put forward my own solutions to solve the problems. So after thinking, I chose conscious consumption.

2. Mindmap

Then I drew mindmap. I divided this topic into four aspects,——clothing, food, housing and transportation.

In the end, I chose food waste as my research direction.

3. Inspiration source

When i was a kid, my mother always order me so much food , so every time we waste a lot and I became a fat kid.

SO, I decide to choose “food waste” as my topic,we all know that Conscious food consumption can effectively save the resources.

4. Background and purpose

First of all, I described the background and purpose of this project – all to reduce food waste.

5. Work plan

Next, I use sketch to draw the following research content and the research methods I will use.

6. Secondary research:

—-current situation & harm of food waste

First of all, I investigated the current situation of food waste, we can see that food waste is very common, restaurants and canteens are the main places to waste food, and the waste of vegetables and staple food is more serious

At the same time, the results also show that food waste has great harm to the environment and show the reasons why people waste food,
The secondary research results make the project more necessary, and it is urgent to solve the food waste

7. Observation

Next, I went to the restaurant and canteen to observe and took photos. I found the similarities and differences in food waste between the restaurant and canteen. The per capita waste of canteen is more serious, so I determined this project will be aimed at the canteen

8. Questionnaires results

Through the questionnaire, I determined that the target group is young people under the age of 30, and the survey results show that people do not want to waste food, but they can not force themselves to eat in order not to waste.

9. Interview

Next,I interviewed some young people, here are 5 questions about their dietary status.

Through further interviews and research, I can find the main reason of food waste:

young people’s diet structure is not scientific (For example, too much rice or too few vegetables), which makes it very difficult for them to finish all the food in each meal.

10. About Internet

Then I did some research and find the Internet takes up most of people’s time.

Therefore, the using Internet is a good way to make people more intuitive contact with the ways to eat healthily and use healthy diet structure to reduce food waste.

11. Empathy map

12. Persona

After fully understanding the user’s psychology, I made persona. According to the previous research, the target person I describe is a young woman under 30 years old. At the same time, it shows the internal and external factors that make her waste food.

13. User journey map

After completing the user modelling techniques, the final conclusion(POV) is:

Young people who eat in the canteen need to know the types and quantity of food they need and how to eat scientifically, because they can eat all the food and reduce the waste of food if they have right diet structure.

14. Idea(how might we…)

①IDEA 1:

At the beginning of this project, I thought of designing games from the perspective of users, allowing users to participate in the games every day to expand their knowledge of healthy diet and their awareness of not wasting food, so as to use users’ subjective initiative to solve the problem of food waste. Build a ranking list in app, and solve problems by using user comparison psychology.

But after careful consideration, I don’t think the first idea is feasible, because people may only care about the rankings. They doesn’t really establish the awareness of not wasting, and it’s not for users who don’t like games.

②So I put forward IDEA 2:

Design an ordering app for users who eat in the canteen.

The app will provide the daily food plan and the amount of food according to the user’s personal information. The user will upload the meal feedback after eating. The app will use big data to upgrade and adjust the daily plan according to the eating situation, so as to make the plan more suitable for users. If users waste too much or don’t upload feedback, the phone will warn. Establish a community section to let all users share their own food achievements, this function is to enable users to use the app for a longer time.

14. PACT analysis

After pact analysis, I found that a smart plate should be designed to be used together with the app, because people have no concept about the amount of meals when they are ordering in the canteen, so a smart plate that can display the weight of food at any time can make the amount of meals more accurate.

15. Sketch

16. Preliminary flow chart

At first, I divided the whole app into several parts: login, my, plan, feedback, sharing community, and start eating.

17. Preliminary wireframe

Then I drew the preliminary wireframe and tested it

18. Preliminary test feedback

19. Updated flow chart (iteration)

Then, according to the test feedback and experiment, I updated the flow chart.

20. Updated wireframe

I divided the whole app into five parts again. They are login,my,start eating, plan and sharing community.

The design of the home page includes four functions and banner area.
Click diet plan, you can choose group mode or individual mode, then choose what you want to eat , and finally determine the plan.
Click start eating to link the mobile phone with the smart plate. You can see the weight of food on the mobile phone and the plate at the same time. After eating, you can upload the meal feedback.
Click my, there will display four functions, respectively is today’s plan, my friends, personal information, and my collection.
